Anyone know why?

“Plants do release CO2 in the process of respiration (burning energy) called the Krebs cycle. This process is not light dependent, therefore is continuous. Photosynthesis is the process responsible for the release of oxygen and is light dependent (takes place during daylight only). The chemical equations are equal but respiration contributes CO2 through the dark hours while photosynthesis is inactive. However, temperatures during the day and night directly affect the rates of each of these processes. In a normal climate; it is warmer during the day and cooler at night so the amount of O2 is much greater than the amount of CO2 in a 24 hour period. That is why we can breathe comfortably all night long.

It is very important to keep in mind that humans (& animals) release CO2 with every breath, all day and all night (and we are not harming ourselves by doing so). If a person lived in a greenhouse (full of spinach or soybeans) that was kept cool during the day then warm during the night, there would be some concern.

Did you know….90% of the Earth’s oxygen supply comes from the blue green algae in the Oceans?”
In addition to Cheryl Dawn’s explanation, let me direct you to The New York Times Learning Network with info on plants respiration.

Although the amount of CO2 released by plants at night is not outrageous, feng shui-wise, plants are not recommended for a small to mid-size bedroom.

In conclusion, here is a quote from Richard E. Barrans Jr., Ph.D. at PG Research Foundation in Darien, Illinois: “Plants generate carbon dioxide by much the same mechanism as animals. They combine glucose with oxygen in many steps to make carbon dioxide and water, giving them the energy they need to carry out their life processes.” ( Ask A Scientist (c) Botany Archive, US Department of Energy )

the reason behind this is that plants is the element wood in the 5 elements in fengshui. and in fengshui, any of these 5 elements is more powerful than humans – meaning it can cause something to the occupants. difficult to explain how this is, unless you really know fengshui esp the concept of flying stars. but plants can complicate your life more if it is in the bedroom.

each of the 5 elements in fengshui has its own unique energy. and every location in your house contains a certain energy form or chi. this chi is an energy that we cannot feel or sensed. it can only be calculated to characterize their nature. when an element like a plant is placed in a certain location, it (it’s energy) joins with the energy of the location to forma a new kind of energy. chi or energy or this new form of energy can either good or bad, and this manifests or happen in your life. good energy can make good things happen. bad things causes accidents and unnecessary expenses.

for example:
if you have a bathroom in west (in relation to the center of the house), then this is particularly bad for women. but if you put a plant inside this bathroom, just to liven it up, then it can have the effect that your daughter can go with bad crowd or boyfriends with a bad guy attitude. i know we are talking about bedrooms, but it has an effect which is something like that.

fengshui is not a belief or religion or a philosophy. it is not about supersititions. there is no general thing, like a certain plant is lucky when you place it in certain areas. generally everything is case to case basis. therefore, you need to know fengshui to optimize your life. and placing a plant inside the bedroom can cause more harm than good. so it is just not adviseable, unless you know what you are doing.

nothing to do with respiration or transpiration process of a plant.References :
